Battlefield
tour report July 2018 – From Chris Carling and Gary Bain.
As
part of a battlefield tour, organised by Gary Bain, these two LTOCA members
represented the Association at the Menin Gate ceremony on the 15th
July 2018.
The
tour specifically looked at the last 100 days of the First World War leading up
to the Armistice in November.
They
were accompanied by Peter Hart a renowned historian who has written a book
called, The Last Battle, which comes highly recommended by Chris.
Both
Chris and Gary laid a wreath on behalf of the Association which drew a lot of
interest and they were able to inform other attendees at the ceremony about the
vital involvement of London’s Transport during the war.
As
you will see the weather dictated shirt sleeve order but the ceremony was
described as well attended and very poignant.
Gary
and Chris accompanied by Carol Hope, a Great War book author, who read the
Eulogy.
